The Classic series (2211/2213/2215/2217) is the reference point every other canister is measured against. There is no display, no priming button, no frills — just a sealed, near-silent pump that moves water reliably for a very long time. Alongside it, the Jäger heater is one of the most trusted heaters in the hobby, and the newer Professionel canisters add priming and shelf-baskets for people who want a little more convenience.

Where they fit — and the honest caveats

Eheim is a premium-but-sensible choice. It rarely wins on features or on price at the till, but it wins comfortably on cost-per-year and on peace of mind. If your priority is a filter you fit once and forget, this is the brand.

The honest caveats are all about personality rather than quality. The Classic line is deliberately basic — no flow taps as standard on the smallest models, manual priming by filling the canister or siphoning, and a spare-parts system that assumes you are willing to service the unit yourself. The German instructions and packaging can feel dated. None of that dents the core promise: for long-term, low-drama filtration, Eheim remains the safest name in the hobby.
