CaribSea aquarium gear
Natural substrates and planted soils, from bright sands to aquascaping aqua-soil.
CaribSea is a US substrate specialist offering everything from natural sands and gravels to the planted Eco-Complete range. The go-to name when the floor of the tank matters as much as the water.
CaribSea is an American company that specialises in one thing most brands treat as an afterthought: the substrate. From bright natural sands to mineral-rich planted soils, it makes the floor of the aquarium its whole business, and its products turn up in everything from biotope community tanks to competitive aquascapes.
What they are genuinely best at
The range splits into two clear strengths. First, natural decorative substrates — the Super Naturals sands and gravels and the Instant Aquarium bagged sands (which ship with beneficial bacteria in the water) let you match a specific look, from a pale river sand to a dark contrasting gravel. Second, planted soils: the Eco-Complete Planted substrate is a long-standing favourite that provides iron and trace minerals for root feeders without the crumbling that plagues some cheaper soils.

Where they fit — and the honest caveats
CaribSea suits aquascapers and planted keepers who care about both the look and the growth of a tank, as well as anyone recreating a natural biotope. The choice of colours and grain sizes is a real advantage.
The honest caveats are practical. Unlike true aquasoils from aquascaping brands, Eco-Complete is pH-neutral and does not soften or acidify the water, which is a plus for general community tanks but means it will not create the soft, acidic conditions some plants and shrimp prefer. As with any substrate, a thorough rinse before use avoids early cloudiness with the drier products. Choose the grade that matches your plants and stock, and CaribSea gives you one of the widest, most dependable substrate ranges available.
